Procedures for Emeritus Staff
Members or former members of the NCSSM staff qualify for Emeritus status upon meeting all the following criteria:
Ten years of full-time employment at NCSSM;
Retirement from NCSSM;
Distinguished and meritorious service as documented in the Staff Emeritus;
Nomination Form, Personnel File and Performance Record;
Nomination by another member or former member of the NCSSM staff, faculty or administration, or self-nomination; and
Approval of the nomination by the Board of Trustees.
A staff member is considered for Emeritus status when:
The appropriate Vice Chancellor receives a completed Staff Emeritus Nomination Form.
The Nomination form must include a narrative describing any awards, distinctions, distinguished and meritorious service, and a supporting letter from the nominee’s supervisor.
After screening the nominee for eligibility, the appropriate Vice-Chancellor informs the Chancellor of his/her recommendation.
Based on the recommendation, the Chancellor either recommends to the Board of Trustees via the Fiscal, Audit, and Human Resources Committee that the application is approved or informs the individual that Emeritus status will not be recommended. The denial of an honorary title may not be appealed.
All information relating to the nomination, screening and, recommendation process shall be held in strict confidence and considered only in closed session.
Staff Emeriti will receive the following benefits:
NCSSM identification card and access pass with the same access to campus and use of basic facilities as regular staff;
Preserve NCSSM email address subject to the Acceptable Use Policy;
Full library privileges;
Listing in the school directory as Emeritus Staff;
Admission to athletic and cultural events at staff rates;
Invitation to convocations, commencements, and general staff events.
